Luncheon: Where can Indexes – and Factors – Fall Short?

Please join us for an engaging conversation with Phil McInnis, Chief Investment Strategist at Avantis Investors. Attendees will get an in-depth look at the data behind various indexes to better understand the tracking error between indexes targeting the same asset class, as well as the overlap between indexes targeting different asset classes. You should have a better understanding of the similarities/differences of popular indexes by the end of the presentation. This talk also explores the evolutions in academic research around targeting higher expected returns, and how investors might implement those approaches for their clients. In this role, Phil oversees all marketing content development surrounding Avantis' investment approach and meets regularly with advisors and institutions to discuss various investment topics and explain Avantis' investment capabilities. Prior to Avantis Investors' establishment in 2019, Phil was a vice president and head of portfolio solutions at Dimensional Fund Advisors in Austin, TX, where he oversaw a team charged with developing content to explain Dimensional's investment approach and helping clients on topics related to asset allocation, manager evaluation, and risk budgeting. Prior to Dimensional, Phil was an Investment Consultant at Towers Watson (now Willis Towers Watson), working predominately with corporate and public defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans. Phil earned a bachelor of business administration in finance from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. He holds Series 7, 24 and 66 licenses.

10th Annual CFA Society Pittsburgh Career Fair - Investing in the Future Wednesday September 11th, 2024 Rivers Club 301 Grant St Pittsburgh, PA CFA Society Pittsburgh is excited to announce our 10 th annual CFA Society Pittsburgh Career Fair - Investing in the Future , a day of networking and career development education targeted to the greater Pittsburgh area's current and future investment and finance professionals. The event will take place at the Rivers Club, 301 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219, on September 11th, 2024, and we’d be thrilled if your university would participate by sending its top 10 senior or graduate school students along with a faculty member.  CFA Society Pittsburgh Career Fair - Investing in the Future will feature sessions on the CFA Program, resume writing and interviewing tips, pointers on how to network successfully, a panel of HR representatives and hiring managers to answer the tough questions from attendees, and a final session allowing participants a chance to meet and network with representatives of local firms and recruiters.    To develop meaningful career contacts and provide our exhibitors with only the best talent, CFA Society Pittsburgh is extending the invitation to just ten students from each university. To accomplish this, we ask you to identify your ten best finance, accounting, or economics students and send them to CFA Society Pittsburgh Career Fair - Investing in the Future or provide their contact information to CFA Pittsburgh. Each university may include a faculty member, such as a department chair or career services employee. CFA Society Pittsburgh realizes this event may coincide with scheduled classes, but we strongly encourage you to excuse students and allow them to attend. Rarely do they have an opportunity to receive top career advice and network with future employers and peers.     Registration for students will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a CFA Program presentation at 12:00 p.m. Panel discussions will run from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Open networking will follow at 4:00 p.m., hosted by our Emerging Leaders Group (ELG). The CFA Society Pittsburgh will provide light appetizers and beverages.
